The Elgin County Railway Museum (ECRM) is located in the former Michigan Central Railroad Locomotive Shops in downtown St. Thomas, Ontario. a+LiNK Architecture was retained by the museum to carry out a long-term strategic planning study to design a railway-based park on the grounds between ECRM and the Canadian Southern Railway Station. The planning of the park incorporates elements such as green space, playgrounds and sports courts, hardscaping and water features as well as an outdoor theatre venue and railway-themed sculptures. The intent of the park master plan is to provide multi-event outdoor space for community events and pay homage to the railway history of the city. The work produced forms the basis for future planning, phasing and fundraising.
